CHINESE LANGUAGE PROGRAM
We are presently interested in recruiting students from different countries to attend Chinese classes in Taiwan and Mainland China. Mandarin Chinese is now rapidly becoming a medium for international communication, and many people around the world are now learning this language for purposes of business and education. At ECHO, we hope to give people the chance to study Mandarin along with other aspects of Chinese culture.
Mandarin Chinese is now becoming as important as English as a language of international communication. In the next twenty years, a knowledge of Chinese and a certain fluency in it will be important for people in many spheres. The Ministry of Education in Taiwan is now offering billions New Taiwanese Dollars in funds over a period of five years in order to recruit students from many countries around the world to study the Chinese Language at schools in Taiwan. Echo International Language School is setting up a Chinese Language teaching team, and is designing courses with relevance to Chinese Culture. In this way, Taiwan will become increasingly international and cosmopolitan.
Echo has divided the Chinese Language Program into two parts: 1. Standard Classes 2. Elective Courses in the following areas: pronunciation, grammar, dialogue, writing, and reading. Other electives are HSK Chinese Aptitude Test, and Chinese Cultural Studies. The course of study in Living Mandarin uses practical audiovisual media along with lesson plans designed by our teachers as the main content. The instruction stresses communication in everyday situations, and utilizes pictures and other multimedia as teaching tools. Apart from direct explanation of principal concepts, ample opportunity for practice is afforded during classes so that learners can develop language skills and increase awareness and knowledge through practical usage. An understanding of the cultural background inextricably bound up with language also enables students to apply what they have learned in practical settings outside the classroom. Learners are separated according to attainment and ability, and placed in the level of class most suited to their needs.
The Chinese Language Program starts classes in both spring and autumn of each year, and each term is sixteen weeks in length (320 hours in total). Classes at Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced Levels are available each term, and each of these levels is divided into three sections of Lower, Middle and Upper.
